Just got in from my early morning training session with the team and weirdly I had this massive urge for something sweet.
I’ve kept it the quiet but I was away for a short weekend in Ibiza, which did involve quite a bit of the wrong types of food and drink.
Before you think it or ask, yes I do eat rubbish from time to time. Even coaches have to let their hair down at some point.
Can’t walk around being Mr goodietoshoes all the time…
Can ya dig it??
Anyway, we can blame the heavy load of sugar, that I had over my 4 day weekend, mainly ingested in the form of liquid resulting in huge insulin spikes along with a nice dose of sugar to help candida grow.
Candida is a yeast-like parasitic fungus that can sometimes cause thrush or in some cases, lead to what’s called the Leaky Gut Syndrome (more on this next week).
Since being back, I’ve cut out all the rubbish and the old withdrawal symptoms have kicked in big time. Headaches and fluctuating energy levels and insatiable cravings like the one this morning.
Why, you ask??
Well let your brother from another mother explain.
Have a wild guess as to what bacteria-candida feeds on?
Sugar!!
They also feed on grains and dairy.
Damn straight! Those bastards were having a party all at the same time as me. Lucky buggers… and all for free too…
Effectively treating candida involves stopping the yeast overgrowth, restoring the friendly bacteria that usually keep them in check, and healing your gut so that candida can no longer enter your bloodstream.
My aim is to starve the bad bacteria in my gut and improve the balance of the good.
My diet/nutrition has been pretty shocking compared to normal for the last 4 to 8 weeks give or take and it’s starting to take effect as I’m not feeling like my normal self and it’s starting to spill into other areas of my life.
Training isn’t going as well. I want to do more but I’ve got into that ‘can’t be bothered’ mentality and I know full well now through trial and error that if my eating isn’t up to parr the first thing that gives is my training.
I bet you’re the same to! It’s difficult to motivate yourself when all you want to do is sit down and do nothing. Not bad if you’ve earned that rest but most haven’t.
Start paying more attention to your energy levels because if they are always low you’ll want to re balance your gut flora by supplementing and eating the right foods. I dive deep into this subject on the

In future when you go on a clean ‘diet’ of just eating real food, you will go through a phase where you’ll feel hungry all the time, even when you’ve had a big meal.
Just know that it’s not you having an appetite of king kong. It’s because the bad bacteria in your gut are wanting sugar and they are putting up a fight.
So don’t crack and give in by eating a chocolate. Starve the bastards and once the bacteria reduces you can be sure now so will your cravings.
