Bournemouth Personal Trainer - Christmas Damage Limitation
My damage pretty much started from last weekend on our boot camp night out and it got pretty messy… great food though! One member couldn’t even remember how she got home.
Don’t worry she got home safe and sound.
If you haven’t eaten at the green house hotel, put it on your list of places to try.
Luckily, I don’t work in an office filled with people buying cakes and biscuit to give out at work, nor has anyone got me any treats for christmas, so I’m the all good
No cravings… get in!
But I’m one of the weird one’s who is not fussed about cakes, chocolate and sweets.
Want to know what my guilty pleasure is??
CHEESE!! And a lot of it! The smellier the better :P
I’ll tell you a little secret, I probably ate a block of cheese every day for a week and a bit.
Bad right? Well it was everywhere! Once I got the taste for it I could not stop!
You know the feeling?
I think everyone does!
I’ve got some set rules/guidelines which I like to stick to during xmas so I don’t cause too much damage to my body. I couldn’t reverse all the effects of the cheese I had BUT I certainly made sure I didn’t make things worse.
Firstly, Christmas food shopping, if you haven’t been already that’s good because I tend to have a trick up my sleeve, which is to eat BEFORE I go food shopping.
This is such a ridiculous tip I know, but I’ve lost count now the amount of times I’ve been food-shopping feeling hungry and without realising, have bought things that weren’t on the list! Sometimes I didn’t even look at the list. Part of my brain forgot the list and I bought the things that made my mouth water instead!
I’m sure you’ve done it before…
Plus the bill always ends up being more!
Fill your trolley up with Veg, Veg and more Veg and a variety of fruit!
The good thing about xmas is that the food is actually pretty healthy. Why?
Well, what does everybody eat this time of year? A big fat ROAST!
Never have I been out and not seen vegetables on a plate with roast. I personally have never cooked a roast but my mum always makes a mean roast, so I tend to hang out with her for the day Love you mum!
So you’ve guessed it, load up on your veg because broccoli, parsnips, runner beans, green beans, sprouts, carrots, cabbage and possibly kale are incredibly beneficial for you!
The main 4 you want to be focussing on is broccoli, kale, spinach and watercress as these 4 food are the BEST anti estrogenic foods that will help detoxify your body and help maintain your weight. You can shovel loads of broccoli and kale down on xmas day and spinach and watercress on boxing day but more about this in a mojo…
A great way to keep the nutrients in your veg is to steam them as it doesn’t break down as much of the great nutrients.
The added benefit of a plate full of veg is that you’ll have less space for the starchy carbs. If you are planning on roast potatoes, cook them in coconut oil and not butter, vegetable oil, goose fat, olive oil or lard. This is because coconut oil is PHENOMINAL when it comes to fat loss as it GREAT for your metabolism.
Try and stay away from eating different carbs like rice, potatoes, pasta in one sitting.
So, you’ve filled your plate with veg and meat is probably next on your list. We all love meat. When it comes to poultry go for the white meat (breast) instead of the red meat such as wings/legs. The red stuff has almost twice the amount of saturated fat as the white stuff, which is fine, BUT, in a meal where you’re likely to have a few different sources of saturated fat, you’ll want to limit this. I’d go for organic if possible as they wont be pumped with artificial hormones and pro-hormones.
Sauces can be a tough one because stuff you buy are coated with sugar and sugar = insulin, high insulin spikes = fat. So unless you can make your own then I’d stay away from them.
Gravy on the other hand is a must. ‘Back in my youth’ I never liked gravy until I hit puberty and my voice broke. I never really understood why I never liked it. It’s amazing!
To keep it ‘cleaner’ than the shitty BISTO, I’d go for a gluten free recipe. Use rice flour to make it thicker. If you Google ‘gluten free gravy’ you’ll find a few recipes
For the dessert I’m not going to tell you not to eat it because I’ll be sat muching my way through something my mum has made BUT If you really are focussing on weight loss then leave it.
To do less damage, get some healthy fats inside you and take 2 x 1000 mg of omega 3 fish oil before your desert. Fish oil, is THE BEST fat loss supplement out there today. Apart from helping every disease known to man. Its main role in fat loss is to help control blood sugar levels (THE key to fat loss - from the love handles especially), to turn OFF fat storage enzymes and turn ON fat burning enzymes. If you’re not taking at least 3-6 g of fish oil a day you’re missing out on some tremendous benefits.
On boxing day before you’re about to fill up your plate, make sure you lay a bed of spinach and watercress down first, avoid bread and dairy and load up on the fresh meat.
So there you have it, few tips to stop you from gaining unwanted weight, cellulite, water retention and limit metabolic stress.
Have a wicked Christmas and an AMAZING 2013.
